The mighty Wood Vikings battled a scrappy Tennent Panthers team on Friday, October 13th in the second game of the AHA (Athletes Helping Athletes) Hockey Showcase at Revolution Ice Gardens. Wood applied a lot pressure early in the game. Both lines of defense consisting of Ryan Kinney, Nick Romano, Sean Boehm, and Marisa Denucci were doing a good job keeping the puck in the zone. Then Bobby Marcus from Tennent had a quick breakaway and scored with 4:57 left in the first period.
Tennent’s goalie Eric Lineman was stopping everything during the game, over 40 shots, until Wood’s forward Justin Carrelli scored from a beautiful across the crease pass by Center Ben Doran with 6:14 left in the third period. A minute later Justin scored again on a breakaway with assists by Ben Doran and Sean Boehm.
The game ended 2-1 with Wood pulling out the victory and ending a three year losing streak against the Tennent Panthers. This was a good preview for the big rival game between the two teams on November 22nd, 7:00 at BCI.
Be sure to come out and support the Wood Hockey team this Wednesday, October 18 at 8:40pm against Council Rock North at the Revolution Ice Gardens. Your donations to help the special needs athletes are greatly appreciated!
